facebook farewell

As police investigate an apparent joyride turned fatal, Facebook users have been morning the loss of the 12-year-old Throggs Neck girl killed in the accident.
Friends and family created a makeshift cyber memorial to 12-year-old Kaitlin Booth. Instead of candles and heartfelt sayings left at the crash scene, people are leaving messages on a Facebook page created to remember Booth who died this morning.
“Katlin, you were taken away from us way tooo soon. RIP You will always be in our hearts,” wrote one.
“My Katie Girl. I love you so much. We can't believe that this happened. You will always be a part of my heart and soul. Always my baby,” another post read.
The cyber space condolences began shortly after news broke about the fatal accident. Photos of the happy red haired girl fill the wall of the Facebook page as friends and family grope for answers.
At around midnight on December 29, 2003 a 2003 GMC Envoy flipped over on the Bruckner Expressway service road a short distance from PS 14. The SUV had crashed into a fence and Booth was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. These are the only facts not in dispute. Who was driving and whether the young victim was a part of the fatal joy ride is still being sought out.
The Daily News reported that Booth was in the front seat of the SUV that was going 50 mph in a 30-mph zone when it flipped over. The paper said a 15-year-old boy at the scene allegedly told police that Kaitlin was walking on the street around the corner from her Edison Avenue home when the truck flipped over and hit her. The teen claimed that two men jumped out of the truck and fled on foot.
Detectives are said to be having a hard time buying that story because the SUV is registered to a driver in Kaitlin’s home and the alleged teenage witness lives in the same building. The report also claims that cops suspect the teen of being behind the wheel as Booth sat in the front passenger seat. The report claims the teen dragged Kaitlin’s body away from the vehicle after the truck flipped over.
No word on whether the teenage boy will be charged or when memorial services will be held for Booth.
