An apparently out-of-control car side-swiped a vehicle before slamming into a taxi at a high-rate of speed, when the driver reportedly attempted to flee the scene. The driver then allegedly ran down a pedestrian before being stopped by civilians.
The incident was reported at 6:47 p.m., on July 16, when the unidentified driver was traveling westbound on E. Fordham Road, and struck the taxi at Creston Avenue. Witnesses say that despite the heavy damage the vehicle sustained, the driver continued to Jerome Avenue, where an unidentified pedestrian was rundown. All three injured were removed to St. Barnabas Hospital where their conditions were not yet known.
Fordham Road was the site of three deadly crashes in the past year, on August 10, 2010, a 76-year-old man was struck and killed as he waited for a bus on University Avenue. Another taxi jumped the curb on April 21, and crashed into Cee-Cee Department store, killing Carmen Ahmed on Bainbridge Avenue.
